Privacy Policy
Last Updated:
Thank you for using GuideOps ("the Extension"). We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting it through our compliance with this policy. This Privacy Policy outlines our practices regarding data collection, usage, and protection.
1. Data We Collect (And Where It Stored)
GuideOps is designed to operate entirely locally on your device. When you initiate a recording session, the Extension captures:
- DOM elements you interact with (e.g., clicks, button presses).
- Text inputs typed into non-sensitive fields.
- Screenshots of the active browser tab during recorded interactions.
- The URLs of the pages where interactions occur.
Crucial Security Detail: All captured data, including images and text, is stored exclusively in your browser's local storage (`chrome.storage.local`). We do not own, rent, or operate any servers that receive your recording data.
2. Data We Strictly Ignore
To protect your sensitive information, GuideOps is programmed to explicitly ignore specific types of data. The Extension will never record or store:
- Keystrokes or values entered into password fields (
<input type="password">). - Values of hidden input fields.
- Interactions that occur while the extension is toggled "off" (not actively recording).
3. Data Sharing and Third Parties
Because we do not transmit your data to any external servers, we do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your data to outside parties. Your guides are yours alone. They only leave your device if you explicitly choose to export and share them manually (e.g., downloading as an HTML file or PDF).
4. Permissions Explained
The Extension requests the following permissions for specific functional reasons:
activeTab&tabs: Required to take screenshots of the specific page you are working on to generate your visual guide.scripting: Required to inject the recording script onto the page so it can track where your mouse clicks.storage&unlimitedStorage: Required to save your generated guides and high-resolution screenshots locally on your machine without crashing the browser's memory limits.
5. Changes to This Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
